Like my garden, simply due to proximity, I have found things that I did not plant, good and bad, creeping into my life.

Yet I was excited because I knew that I was resting the soil in preparation for the winter garden that was going to be planted in a few weeks.

Plants remind us that fear is not an emotion that should paralyze us. It should inspire healing, helping, protective action.  

a life without boundaries is like a garden choked by weeds, crammed with plants, and impossible to walk through. It’s a complete mess.

Each person has the ability to produce “fruit”, also known as our gifts and talents. And just like the apple tree growers, we have to worry about the pests that are attracted to our fruits, stripping us bare, as they feed only themselves.

But as we care for our plants, we learn that many things that look or feel dead, often only look dead.

We often struggle with storms because we take the presence of storms as a personal challenge to ourselves. The garden helps us remember that weather patterns, and storms, exist without thought of us. In the same way, so many emotional storms are not personal, though they affect us personally.

When we experience verbal, mental, sexual, physical or any form of abuse, that violation is enough to destroy any sense of safety that we had…Luckily, garden therapy can help begin to rebuild a sense of safety.

Horticultural therapy aka gardening therapy is using gardening or caring for plants as a therapeutic tool for health and healing of the mind, body, and soul.
